A collection of original sixties contact sheets which have been stapled together bearing images of The Beatles taken by Richard ‘Dick’ Matthews throughout 1961 and 1962. They show the group on stage at the performances listed below.
Aintree Institute, Liverpool on the 19th August 1961.
Cavern Club, Liverpool in November 1961.
Tower Ballroom, New Brighton on the 10th November 1961.
Palais Ballroom, Aldershot on the 9th December 1961. This was the group’s first performance in the south of England and they played to an audience of only 18.
Provenance: from the estate of Richard Matthews.
The sheets measure 25.25cm x 30cm (10 inches x 12 inches). There is a 4.5cm tear to the top edge with wear and creasing to the edges and corners along with a horizontal crease line. The condition is good plus.
