Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll & The Trinity 1960s Promotional Poster (UK)

An original sixties promotional poster for an appearance by Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll and The Trinity in the late sixties at the Speakeasy Club, London.

The poster measures 50.7cm x 76.2cm (20 inches x 30 inches). There is some creasing to the poster. The condition is very good.

Provenance: from the collection of Roy Flynn, who was the manager of the club at the time and it is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Roy which reads:

‘In December 1966 I was asked to take over the management of the Speakeasy Club at 48 Margaret St, London, W1 which was owned by a company called Rambutan Ltd. It had opened a few months earlier and was managed by a lady called Norma Perryman but had failed to take off. I relaunched the club with The Valentine Day Massacre Party on the 14th February remembering the Al Capone period in Chicago. The party was a great success and the club prospered and became the social centre of the burgeoning British music scene. However Monday nights were the quietest in the week so I decided to stir it up a bit. We introduced a “Loon Up Mother Browns Velvet Underpass” section and, in turn, to give the audience some relief from our juvenile puerile sense of humour, we had Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll and the Trinity play, which went down very well with our members. Brian Auger and Co were managed by a great guy called Georgio Gomelsky who ran a publicity company called Paragon, 17 Stratford Place London W1, part of Polydor Records to my recollection. Unannounced to me Georgio suddenly produced this poster, designed by Haymish Grimes, for fly posting in West London in order to promote his band’s residency. I had regretfully to tell him that he could not use these posters because the Speakeasy was a private members club so we could not let the general public in.’
