The original wicker chair with leopard print cushion as depicted on the cover of the seminal 1994 debut Oasis album ‘Definitely Maybe’. On the cover Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs can be seen sat on the chair in the corner of the room. The album cover was shot in Bonehead’s flat in Didsbury, Manchester by photographer Michael Spencer Jones. Since the album cover shoot the chair has been painted grey by a member of Bonehead's family and the arms/front legs have been stripped back to the original wood. The chair is accompanied with a CD copy of the 'Definitely Maybe' album.
The chair measures 78cm (30.75 inches) deep x 61cm (24 inches) wide x 84cm (33 inches) high. There are some chips to the grey paint over parts of the wicker on the back and side and some small chips to the wooden arms/legs. The condition is very good plus.
Provenance: purchased directly from Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, comes with a signed letter containing an image of himself sat in the chair and reads as follows:
“This is to certify that the chair illustrated below is the one in which I was pictured sitting in the photograph taken for the front cover of the first album by Oasis ‘Definitely Maybe’. The photograph was taken by Michael Spencer Jones in the living room of my house in Didsbury, South Manchester and it was used by Brian Cannon in the design of the sleeve for Microdot Designs. Since the photo session, the chair has been painted grey. I can be seen sitting in the re-painted chair in the photograph of myself that was taken outside of my house in the suburbs of Manchester in early October 2018. “
