Provenance: from the collection of DJ John Peel who was an occasional presenter for Top of The Pops. John started appearing on the show in the 1960s however in 1968, after publicly announcing live on air his dissatisfaction that the show was not showcasing Tyrannosaurus Rex or Captain Beefheart enough, he was given a hiatus for the next 14 years. It was the early 1980s before John Peel was allowed back on the show and given more regular slots. Being known for his dry sense of humour and discerning musical taste, John still added the occasional quip regarding acts he was introducing or advocating music he felt those watching should be purchasing.
